Ferroptosis is a new type of cell death proposed in the last decade, which is characterized by iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxides, leading to cell death. Ferroptosis has been widely studied in tumors and neurodegenerative diseases, but its relationship with cardiovascular diseases is seldom studied. This review focuses on the role of ferroptosis in various cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiomyopathy and valvulopathy, so as to provide new methods for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the future.
